If you are the sole sponsor of your Angel your sponsorship contributions to send an Angel to school are:
Sponsor funds can be made via direct debit. We encourage annual payments as this reduces our bank and transfer fees.
Your sponsorship contributions goes directly to your Angel’s school and pays for their school fees. 5% of your contribution is used to support our administration costs. No salaries are paid to trustees of African Angels.
Your Angel’s parents or carers have committed to supporting their child at school, providing transport, uniforms, books and lunches. This is a big financial and logistical commitment for parents in rural Africa, transport can be non existent, and the parents may not have attended school themselves!
If you pay in any other currency except Rand, any surplus funds that are a result of favourable currency exchanges, are paid to the school in advance of fees due. A contractual arrangement that is legally binding is entered into to ensure a place at school is guaranteed for your Angel after fees are paid.
African Angels contributes to funding its operational costs through sale of postcards in backpacker lodges through South Africa. There is also the opportunity to purchase gifts from the Angel Shop – those items purchased from ‘what an angel wants’, and other fund raising events. We actively seek corporate support in kind and cash. We do not receive any government funding.
We have an Australian Bank Account for Australians, and a South African Bank Account for everyone else.

Yes you can write to your African Angel – address details will be sent to you when you sign up as a sponsor. We do not require our Angels to respond to every letter – some are too little and are still learning English, but we do provide feedback to you via the myangel log in.
South Africa is a beautiful country and you are very welcome to visit your Angel and meet their family. However to ensure the safety of your Angel and their family, all visits must be coordinated through African Angels.
‘Contact us’ for more information.
Yes you can send a gift to your Angel, however we do ask that you select a gift from the ‘what an angel needs’ section in the Angel Shop. These gifts have been specifically selected to support the educational goals of your Angel and make life a little easier for your Angel’s family.
If you do not sponsor an angel but wish to support an Angel in need, we have identified a number of children who are in need of books, uniforms and the like - and you can send a gift to them by clicking on ‘deliver to an angel in need’ when ordering.
Feedback on Angels receiving gifts is given via email and usually includes a photo of your Angel receiving your gift.
If you do wish to send other gifts to your Angel we need you to know that all parcels are opened and inspected to ensure the gift is appropriate.
Please do not send money, battery operated toys (families often cannot afford batteries) – simple is best – school items, simple clothing, photos of your family.
We have appointed Ulton Group in Australia as the official auditors of African Angels’ accounts. OH&S Accounting in East London, South Africa, are our South African auditors.
Annual financial reports will be prepared (due 2008) and placed onto this website for you to peruse.
